The WalkStairs. Ok, so we're slightly imitating the Walkstars, but this is not meant to be insulting. . . more, inspirational. We thought the Walkstars were so cool, we decided to do our own rendition.
Living in Panama City Beach, naturally provides the perfect setting to challenge ourselves physically. With tens of thousands of stairs, we decided to climb every single one. |
We haven't been in a while
Wednesday September 12, 2007
It has been several weeks since we've been able to regroup and go walking stairs. Between school starting, the Labor Day Holiday, family being in town, and me reformatting my laptop and reinstalling all my software (tons), we've been slammed. I bought a new camera and we're eager to try it out. Not sure if we're going to make it out this weekend, but we're sure going to try. I just posted a video that I actually made a couple of weeks ago, it's been on youtube, but I hadn't gotten it up here until now. I still haven't got the alternate media types up, but will later tonight. I still need to make a photos section of the site. Maybe I can do that this week (probably not, but I can try).

We finally met our 8 condo goal, with a guest!
Saturday August 18, 2007
After a one week break, we were able to go again on Friday night. After telling a friend about our journey, she called me early Friday morning and asked if she could come. Of course, the answer was yes (we always welcome guest Walkstairs). We started at Walmart and walked to Laketown Wharf and thought it was open because all the doors were unlucked. We made it to the 10th floor and security found us and nicely asked us to leave. Then we walked to Sunbird (thanks Bernie!) and climbed 12 there. We counted the 10 at Laketown and 12 at Sunbird as 1 condo.
Next, to our surprise, we climbed the Shores of Panama. I was sure they were not open yet, and that we would not be able to get in there, but they were, and man was it awesome. I gotta say, what limited we were able to see, was beatufil. The security guard was quotes as saying "it's like Epcot."
Next was Long Beach (all four of them), Twin Palms, and Ocean Ritz (both 23 floors, really tough).
We were all extremely beat, and the only dry spot on my whole body was a little patch in the center of my shirt. Our guest was awesome (much more athletic than myself) and had an awesome time. Karen, you can come walking with us anytime.

Climbin', Climbin', Climbin', we just keep on climbin'
Saturday August 4, 2007
We climbed three more tonight and walked a ton. We started at En Soleil, then walked about 3/4 miles to Grand Surf Club only to find a gate. We were sure that we were going to be able to get into Gulf Crest, but no luck there either, so we went on to Summit, and Boardwalk. We didn't get to climb near as many as we wanted, but we just ran out of time. Stay tuned for the video.
Also, Jake, the musical talent in the group, has been working on a theme song. To the right is a glimpse into it's creation.

5 condos down, a million more stairs to go
Tuesday July 31, 2007
Well, we cancelled on Friday, only to go on Saturday. It's weird, this week seemed harder than the week before, even though we seemed to walk less stairs. We had a little drama, though; got kicked out of two different condos. Nobody's fault but our own, it's all good. The first condo we climbed was 11 floors, Summerhouse, the second was Coral Reef at 14 floors, the third, Sterling Reef was 17 floors, and we climbed two at Hidden Dunes (19 and 21 floors, respectively). It was fun, but tiring. We look forward to the next batch.

And the adventure begins
Tuesday July 24, 2007
On Friday the 20th we began our adventure on the east end of Panama City Beach at the Commodore and proceeded west to Treasure Island, Seychelles, Regency Towers, and finished with Watercrest condominiums. I speak for all of us when I say it was tough, but awesome. Between the near death experience of walking on the side of a busy road and climbing two condos in excess of 20 stories back-to-back, our first journey truly was an adventure. The heat and humidity didn't help ease our efforts, and we were all sweating like pigs (as the videos will show). I will post the video as soon as I get done editing it. WALKSTAIRS!
